RootX FAQ

  • RootX FAQ

clearing roots from pipeRoot intrusion can be a serious problem with regard to your sewage piping. That’s where the root invasion solution RootX comes in handy. If your plumber or landscaper has recommended RootX to you, you may have some questions. We have some answers.

    What is RootX?

RootX is a nonsystemic chemical root control substance meant to kill the roots it comes in contact with and prevent them from growing back for up to a year. To apply it, simply combine the two dry powder components with water to create a sticky foam that coats the roots and pipeline surfaces. The residue remains for up to 12 months, protecting your pipes from intrusive roots.

    Why would I need RootX?

Root intrusion can be a serious problem, since if gone unchecked, it can destroy your sewage system. The roots will spread throughout the pipes and trap waste and matter, clogging the pipes, and eventually causing them to burst. You should use RootX as a preventative measure for this problem, especially if you or your neighbors have a lot of trees and plants.

Will it harm my trees and plants?

No. Your trees have plenty of roots to sustain life. RootX only kills the parts of the roots that it comes in contact with, and the rest of the tree isn’t affected. The rest of your yard is safe as well, since the EPA has deemed RootX an environmentally safe product.

Why would I choose RootX over mechanical cutting?

RootX takes less time than mechanical cutting and has longer lasting results. Mechanical cutting is only a temporary fix, and it can even stimulate further root growth, causing you more problems. Note that though RootX is a simpler and longer lasting solution, you should use mechanical cutting in combination with RootX if there is considerable root blockage already.

    Can I apply RootX myself?

RootX is not sold directly to homeowners. However, you can have a plumber to do it for you if they are an authorized dealer.

Will RootX damage my pipes and septic systems with prolonged exposure?

No. In fact it may even help keep it strong. RootX does not contain any chemicals that may harm your pipes, but it does promote bacterial growth that is good for septic systems.

    How fast does it work?

The foam will begin to dissipate in your pipes in about 15 minutes. It then begins acting immediately to kill obtrusive roots.

How often should I apply RootX treatments?

You should have RootX treatments administered to your sewer lines or septic systems at least once a year. If you register, your plumber can send you a reminder card after 11 months. In serious cases, you may need to apply RootX more often. Ask your plumber for details.
