Water Games For Your Kids (That Don’t Waste Water)

  • Water Games For Your Kids (That Don’t Waste Water)

Happy Girl with WaterEarlier this month, we talked about a few water conscious games that you can play during the summer that will still make a splash. Here are a few more games and activities that you can play with your kids to cool down during the summer that aren’t just a water fight.

    Relay Races
Wet relay races are a fun way to cool down yet have fun. Fill up a bucket of water, and down the lawn, place an empty bucket. Put a sponge in the bucket filled with water. Have your kids run to the empty bucket with the web sponge, wring it out, and then run back to give the sponge to the next person in line. You can set up 2 sets of buckets and have a competition, or just let your kids see how full they can get the bucket in a certain time limit.

If you have a few kids, you can fill up a bucket of water, and then give them each a cup. Have them face the full bucket, and the first person in line scoops up water, and then pours it over their head (without looking) into the next person’s cup. At the end of the line, place an empty bucket that the last kid will pour their cup into. You can divide into teams and see who can get the most water in their bucket, or time them to see how full they can get the bucket in a minute.
You can heighten the stakes by giving the winning team the first choice of popsicles.

    Ice Cube Painting
Ice cube painting is a fun way to be creative and cool down at the same time. Take a few ice trays, fill them with water, and then put water color paints in each slot. Freeze overnight. Set out a table with a large stretch of fabric or paper outside, and bring out your paints in a bowl. Let your kids take the ice cube paints and create masterpieces. If you want to make it edible, use different colors of juice, just make sure that you wear paint clothes so that you don’t stain your nice clothes!

    Water Tag
You can take any version of tag (freeze tag, toilet tag, etc.) and turn it into water tag. Instead of the person “tagging” other people to make them “it,” they will throw a sponge filled with water. Just make sure that it is a small sponge so that it doesn’t hurt.
