Use materials that can take moisture
If you are building or replacing a section of your bathtub, then it is essential to use building materials that you know are going to be able to handle the moisture buildup in the tub/shower. Traditionally, tile and grout are good options for this goal. However, mold and mildew can grow between the tile if you do not clean regularly.
Ensure that the whole thing is sealed

This means that you should take extra care to make sure that the entire fixture is professionally caulked and sealed, to prevent moisture from leaking into the walls and causing water damage. Install a curtain or a door onto the shower. The reason for this is quite obvious, as not doing so can lead to water continuously getting on the floor and building up, which will wear away at your bathroom floor at a much faster rate than it otherwise would. On top of that, it is just very uncomfortable to have a wet bathroom floor.
