Chronic Plumbing Issues

  • Chronic Plumbing Issues

Water loss from rubber line tube. Bad pipe connection, pipe leak.

Many plumbing damages come suddenly, from a disastrous impact or a jolt of water pressure. However, most problems that can cause immense damage to your plumbing system don’t come suddenly, and are symptoms of long periods of neglect and wear. This is why it is important to occasionally check for some of these problems, because small fixes to keep your plumbing intact are a lot cheaper than having to replace the whole thing. Here’s some common chronic plumbing issues that you might experience…

    Infrequent drain cleaning

Infrequent drain cleaning is one of the most common chronic plumbing issues that occurs in our line of work. Leaving your drain to collect buildup and gunk will soon make it dysfunctional, and could lead to further plumbing damages inside of your pipes. For this reason, it’s a good idea to pour some acidic cleaners down your drain every so often to keep it operating properly

    Rotting washing machine hoses

Another common plumbing issue that can occur from neglect is a rotting washing machine hose. While these hoses are usually well-made and can last for a long time, certain conditions can cause them to rot, and eventually burst. Check on these hoses at least once a year to make sure that they are still strong and healthy. If one of these hoses happens to burst while you are cleaning clothes, then you could experience a wide area of water damage from the flooding that will occur.

    Sump pump decay

A sump pump is a machine, usually in your home’s basement, that is meant to prevent water buildup and flooding from happening in your plumbing system. However, there are times when the water that it collects can sit in there, undisturbed, for too long. This will cause little bits of decay to occur. If this happens enough times over a long period of time, it could cause the sump pump to fail, which would spell disaster for your basement in the event of water flow, which would cause a flood.

    Slate buildup on pipes

Over time, the amount of water, minerals, and waste that travels through pipes can be astounding. And everyday as all of this moves through your plumbing system, little bits of slate are being left behind on the side of the pipes. In some cases, over a long period of time, this slate buildup can cause clogs, or malfunctions in water pressure that end up damaging the entire plumbing system.
