Clean Your Toilet: 4 Ways

  • Clean Your Toilet: 4 Ways

toilet cleanA clean toilet isn’t only good for appearance; it can help keep your plumbing running smoothly as well. Cleaning the toilet is never fun, but there are ways to do it without resenting the task completely. Here are 4 easy ways to clean your toilet, all of which will minimize fuss and frustration.

All-Purpose Cleaner + Toilet Bowl Cleaner

This is the traditional method you are probably most used to seeing. First, spray down your toilet from top to bottom with an all-purpose cleaner (a simple solution of dishwasher fluid and water will do the trick). Don’t forget to spray the toilet base. Then, grab your toilet bowl cleaner, and, taking advantage of the bottle’s unique design, squirt it into your bowl while making sure to get just under the rim. Wipe down the toilet from top to bottom with paper towels, repeatedly replacing old paper towels with new ones and focusing on the handle, seat, and lid. Once your toilet bowl cleaner has had a chance to break down dirt, limescale, and bacteria, you can brush the inside of your bowl with a toilet brush. A great brush will feature a second, smaller head that tilts outward sideways for easy cleaning just below the toilet bowl rim. Once you have scrubbed the inside of the bowl thoroughly, flush the toilet, letting clean water pour over your brush to rid your brush of debris. For an easy way to dry your toilet brush before setting it back in the brush holder, sandwich the handle between the toilet base and seat, allowing it to rest with the brush head positioned above the toilet bowl.

    Toilet Bowl Tablets

For more hands-off cleaning inside your toilet, you can try using toilet bowl tablets. Simply drop a new one in your tank every few months, and it will help deodorize, repel hard water, prevent toilet rings, and prevent mineral and limescale stains. You’ll still need to clean the inside of your toilet bowl every so often, however.

    Baking Soda + Vinegar

Creating a little fizzing action in your toilet can help to get rid of dark water stains. Start by pouring about 1 cup of vinegar into your toilet and then following up with a cup of baking soda. Then follow up with some more vinegar and let the fizzing action work for a few minutes. Scrub away any remaining stains with a toilet brush.

    Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola, with its acidity and carbonation, makes for a surprisingly good toilet bowl stain remover. Simply pour about a can’s worth just below the toilet bowl rim, all the way around, finishing by pouring the rest directly into your toilet water. Let it sit for about an hour and then flush, scrubbing before if needed.
